We understand that many patients are nervous about visiting the dentist, and we know there are many reasons for this. At Meadowbank Dental Practice we are committed to providing excellent care for all our patients, and have a range of options available to help even the most nervous patients get the dental care they need.
Some people have had bad experiences at the dentist in the past, and may have memories from childhood that put them off visiting until a serious problem develops. Fear of needles or the sounds and smells of the dental surgery is also another common reason to put off regular visits. Others may have very sensitive teeth, while many people cannot pinpoint the exact cause of their dental phobia.
Modern dental techniques mean that most procedures are now practically painless. We're used to working with nervous patients and practise gentle, caring dentistry. We'll also take the time to explain any treatment you may require, so you know what to expect. You're also welcome to bring a family member or friend along to your appointments to help put you at ease.
If you still feel nervous about visiting, we can offer help in the form of sedation. We offer oral sedation, in the form of tablets, which will help you to relax and be largely unaware of your treatment, and also IV sedation. You will be conscious throughout your treatment but will be largely unaware of what is happening, and won’t experience any pain or be aware of surgery sounds or smells.
Patients who opt for sedation will need to bring a friend or family member with them to escort them home after treatment, because you won't be able to drive for 24 hours.
