Everyone's lips are unique; there are different sizes, shapes, and configurations that depend on the model's size, age, ethnicity, and even eating habits. The lips are one of the face's most prominent and expressive features. They help to visually communicate our emotions, and they have many functions, including helping us to eat and articulate speech.

At Meadowbank Dental Practice we offer Dermal Fillers injections to help patients achieve plumper, well defined lips. We only use temporary dermal fillers so there is no risk of permanent damage.

All treatments are carried out by experienced, surgically trained dentist Dr Cristina Jimenez. We pride ourselves in providing high quality, subtle natural treatment, tailored to the needs and desires of each patient.

Currently we us Juvederm dermal fillers, which have lots of documented studies that support its safety. We keep up to strict standards of cross infection and continuing professional education.

The dermal filler injections can be used to:

  • Add volume

Even if you don't have small lips to start with but want to add more volume to achieve more sensual lips. In our practice we would always make sure to achieve well defined, natural and healthy looking lips that harmonize with your face and improving overall looks, without creating a pout with excess volume.

  • Balance uneven or asymmetrical shape of lips

If you are unhappy with the symmetry of the lips we can use fillers to increase in natural fullness or a balancing of the lips.

  • Create a more youthful appearance

As we get older our lips start to loose volume, get thinner, develop a down turning corners and lines around the lips. Filler injections will help to restore more youthful appearance.Just a small amount of dermal filler is often all that's needed Dermal fillers can provide volume in the lips, but can also be used for the vermillion border and smile lines.

  • Add moisture

If you have chronically dry lips, having an injection is like a deep-hydrating treat. That's because lip fillers, are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally occurring in the body and that helps to keep skin hydrated. It binds to the collagen in the area it is injected in and absorbs up to 1000 times its weight in water- as well as volumising, it also hydrates, giving you a more youthful look.By injecting hyaluronic acid in the lips, you boost skin's ability to hydrate itself.

FAQs

You will notice the results instantly, however there may be some swelling form the injection that can alter the effects. It can last for about a week and the lips can look uneven during this time.

They can usually last between 6-8 months, but this can vary for different patients.

They can be slightly uncomfortable depending on the area that is treated. Some dermal fillers also contain a local anaesthetic to minimize any discomfort. Before your treatment you will hae a topical anaesthetic cream applied to the area to be treated. As dental professionals we are also able to give a local anaesthetic dental block to numb the nerves prior to treatment to get rid of any potential discomfort

Following a consultation appointment, we can schedule an appointment at your convenience. The treatment can take up to 45 minutes which includes time for the anaesthetic cream to work.

Apart from initial swelling and redness from the injection there are less common risks of the treatment. If you suffer from coldsores then there is a high chance of an outbreak, but with antiherpes medication, this can be minimized. A risk of allergic reaction is very rare. We keep to strict cross infection protocols to minimize any chance of developing an infection.

You can expect some slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a result of the injection. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days.Apply an ice pack- this can help reduce any initial swelling
